Bengaluru: Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) unearthed property tax evasion amounting to Rs 318 crore in the second round of its GPS-based special house-to-house verification drive, which covered around 13,600 properties. The total recovery during two rounds of the verification drive is Rs 688 crore across 23,600 properties. The drive was carried out by GBA’s IT wing in coordination with National Informatics Centre, combining on-ground GPS mapping, drone imagery and digitised built-up area data. Officials said field teams visited each property with mobile applications carrying existing tax data. During visits, teams captured GPS coordinates, recorded property usage — residential, commercial or mixed — and verified the number of floors and actual built-up area.Munish Moudgil, special commissioner (revenue), said the technology-driven system ensured transparency and accountability, adding that GPS teams currently inspect nearly 10,000 properties daily.
