63-year-old Mumbai woman held for fake power of attorney

Mumbai: City crime branch’s property cell has arrested a 63-year-old woman for allegedly creating a power of attorney with forged signatures of govt officials and fake stamps of govt offices. The arrested woman has been identified as Sultana Shaikh, a resident of Dahisar, and the police are looking for her accomplices, Sameera Khan and Amit Tayde. The police said the case originated after the Bombay high court, while hearing a suit between Shaikh Constructions and Romell Housing, found documents bearing the same registration number. Following a court order dated Oct 9, 2025, verification was carried out by the joint deputy registrar’s office, Borivli, which reportedly found the documents were not present in official records and appeared to be forged. The complaint was subsequently lodged by Vasant Roham from the joint deputy registrar’s office, after it was alleged that a fake irrevocable power of attorney dated May 25, 2010, had been created using forged signatures of the deputy registrar and fabricated seals and stamps of govt offices.
