MMC to shift fruit vendors to fish market basement

Vasco: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC), at its meeting on Wednesday, resolved to shift fruit vendors from roadsides to the basement of the fish market building opened a few months ago. “We don’t want fruit vendors or other vendors selling their goods from roadsides. The council has decided to provide them a dedicated space,” chairperson Girish Borkar said.Borkar said the basement would be more convenient for the elderly, as they would not have to climb stairs.

He added that relocating vendors to the fish market complex would also help consumers buy fruits easily and enable the council to clear roads and reduce traffic hazards.The MMC is also identifying an alternative site to shift meat traders.Acting on a request from transport minister Mauvin Godinho, the council decided to suspend pay-parking introduced last month until the beautification of F L Gomes Road and Swatantra Path is completed, citing inadequate parking and ongoing civic works.
