Agartala: Tripura chief minister Manik Saha has urged the Airport Authority of India (AAI) to send a technical and operational team to Kailashahar Airport in Unakoti district for an assessment of its current condition and to review related land and infrastructure issues.He also recommended conducting a feasibility study comparing Kailashahar, Kamalpur and Khowai airports with the Agartala MBB Airport, emphasising prompt submission of the findings.
A high-level meeting, led by the CM, was convened to deliberate on the revival of the Kailashahar Airport and the resumption of flight services. The airport, which has been inactive for nearly 35 years, has recently become a focal point for redevelopment discussions.Key participants in the meeting included Gyan Batra, executive director of AAI’s North Eastern Region, and Krishna Mohan Nehra, the newly appointed director of Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport.The discussions revolved around addressing outstanding challenges and planning necessary steps to restart operations from Kailashahar at the earliest possible date. AAI officials at the meeting confirmed that a technical team would soon visit Kailashahar to conduct a detailed evaluation of technical requirements.Meanwhile, Congress legislature party leader and Kailashahar MLA Birajit Sinha voiced his support for the state’s efforts to revive the airport.
