Lucknow: A day after a 37-year-old teacher died by suicide in Gorakhpur accusing educational dept officials of harassing him, police on Sunday registered an FIR against Deoria basic shiksha adhikari (BSA) Shalini Singh, clerk Sanjeev Singh, and other unidentified officials over allegations of abetment to suicide and criminal intimidation.Krishna Mohan Singh, a resident of the Gulriha area, hanged himself on the night of Feb 20–21 at his residence.Before taking the extreme step, he left behind a four-page suicide note and recorded a video accusing education department officials and clerical staff of taking Rs 16 lakh on the pretext of securing his job and mentally harassing him for months.According to the complaint lodged at Gulariha police station by his wife, Gudiya Singh, her husband was appointed as an assistant teacher in 2016 in Deoria’s Gauri Bazar.His appointment was cancelled in 2023 along with those of two others over alleged irregularities. The matter reached the Allahabad high court, which initially ruled in their favour in April 2022, but subsequent rejection orders by the BSA office led to further litigation.On Feb 13, last year, the high court quashed the rejection and issued fresh orders. During this process, the family alleged that officials demanded Rs 16 lakh each from the three teachers for reinstatement.Despite paying a substantial amount by arranging loans and mortgaging jewellery, her husband was pressured for more money.On Feb 20, he was called to the Deoria office, where he was humiliated and threatened with false cases. Hours later, he died by suicide at his residence, Gudiya said in the FIR to the police.“The suicide note and video were seized for examination by the FSL, and an FIR was registered at Gulriha police station against BSA Shalini and clerk Sanjeev, along with unidentified officials,” said superintendent of police, City, Gorakhpur, Abhinav Tyagi.Taking cognisance of the video, DM, Deoria, Divya Mittal, formed a three-member inquiry committee for a probe while suspending the clerk.
