Noida: Traffic on the Noida-Delhi carriageway of DND Flyway will face restrictions from 11pm to 6am between Feb 22 and March 18 because the key corridor will undergo the second phase of resurfacing. The curbs are expected to slow Delhi-bound movement and could disrupt commuters headed for early-morning flights from IGI Airport. Vehicles, officials said, would be diverted through the Chilla border until the curbs are lifted. The work will be carried out by Noida Toll Bridge Company Limited (NTBCL) — the concessionaire for DND Flyway — as part of the second phase of resurfacing. Earlier this week, NTBCL had already announced that repairs, upgrade and maintenance activity on the flyway were being resumed after interruptions.According to traffic cops, Delhi-bound vehicles on Noida Expressway (from Mahamaya) that would normally take the Flyway would be sent straight towards Dalit Prerna Sthal and then routed to the Chilla border. “Traffic coming from Sector 16 and Rajnigandha Chowk for DND Flyway will be diverted to take a U-turn and then travel through the Chilla border,” an officer said, advising commuters to use alternative routes to avoid inconvenience and plan their airport travel in advance.NTBCL said the upgrade began in Oct last year, but was delayed due to pollution-related restrictions and winter conditions that narrowed the execution window for bituminous work.“Bituminous road work requires regular availability and specific ambient temperature thresholds to ensure proper laying, bonding, and long-term performance of the carriageway,” the company said in a statement. It added that “bitumen availability and transportation remain a key challenge” and that lower winter temperatures affected both the quality of laying and safe working window.Officials said about 70% of the resurfacing had been completed, with the remaining work now in progress. The entire stretch is set to be revamped by March this year. This is the second major rehabilitation effort on DND Flyway, estimated at Rs 6 crore. The first phase, costing Rs 5 crore, was completed in 2023 ahead of the G20 summit.Opened on Feb 6, 2001, the 9.2km, eight-lane corridor links Noida with Delhi’s Maharani Bagh and is used by around 2.5 lakh commuters daily. The Flyway’s tolling has been under legal scrutiny for years. On Sept 8, 2014, a group of RWAs moved Allahabad High Court, seeking abolition of the toll and the concession agreement, and arguing that the project cost had already been recovered. On Oct 26, 2016, the court barred NTBCL from collecting toll, but clarified that the company was still responsible for maintenance under the agreement. NTBCL challenged the order in Supreme Court. But on Dec 20, 2024, the apex court upheld the ban on toll collection.
