Hyderabad: Hours after TOI broke the development about the surrender of Tippiri Tirupati alias Devji, who is believed to be CPI Maoist general secretary, Chhattisgarh home minister Vijay Sharma on Sunday confirmed Devji’s surrender before Telangana police. In a statement given to the media in Chhattisgarh, Sharma said that the security officials’ fight against Maoists to eliminate Maoism reached the last phase. “We got information today that Devji surrendered before the Telangana police. After Basavaraju, the former general secretary, Devji was the senior-most leader of the Maoist party and discharged the duty as the general secretary. Along with Devji, Malla Raji Reddy, alias Sangram, who worked in various places, including Abujmad, also surrendered. This is a very big victory,” he added. He said that in the ongoing operation in Karregutta, 89 IEDs were recovered by the Chhattisgarh police. The minister said Maoists who used it as a safe house will be erased from the area.
