Rs 240cr for grain storage infra

Bhubaneswar: CM Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday announced a budgetary allocation of Rs 240 crore to increase post-harvest food grain storage capacity in the state.The initiative is part of the Centre’s ‘World’s Largest Grain Storage Plan’ in the cooperative sector, first piloted in Madhya Pradesh in 2023. Under the scheme, states are creating various agricultural infrastructure at the PACS level, including decentralised godowns, custom hiring centres, processing units and fair price shops, among others.Majhi said the state is participating in the plan to strengthen post-harvest infrastructure and ensure efficient storage. In the first phase, 19 godowns with a total capacity of 31,500 metric tonnes were selected. Additionally, 3.97 lakh MT storage capacity is being planned in 10 districts. “These facilities will enable safe storage of procured paddy and rice by the civil supplies corporation. A budget provision of Rs 240 crore was proposed for the purpose,” he said.
