Varanasi: The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) organised a programme under the village industries development scheme on Thursday at Khadi and village industries school in Shri Gandhi Ashram, Sevapuri. The programme aimed to strengthen ‘Har Ghar Swadeshi-Ghar-Ghar Swadeshi’ and promote ‘New Khadi of New India’. KVIC chairman, Manoj Kumar, distributed 1,602 items, including 450 bee-boxes, toolkits and equipment, among 885 trained artisans virtually at state offices in Lucknow and Dehradun under KVIC’s central zone in the presence of MLC Hansraj Vishwakarma. A state-level khadi exhibition was also inaugurated in Chandpur industrial area of the district enterprise and industry promotion centre, Varanasi. Addressing the artisans, the KVIC chairman said that khadi is now moving towards becoming a global brand. He said that ‘New Khadi of New India’ is not just clothing, but a symbol of self-reliance, entrepreneurship and an empowered rural economy. TNN
