Varanasi: A woman, who fled after stealing gold and silver jewellery from a jeweller’s shop located in Pandeypur, was arrested by Cantt police station of the Varanasi police commissionerate on Thursday. The police also seized the stolen jewellery. Further legal action is being taken in the matter.According to reports, the arrested woman-Sheela Devi- is a resident of Mirzapur.
According to police, on Jan 27, Sheela reached the shop on the pretext of buying jewellery. When the shopkeeper got busy with another customer, the woman took advantage of the opportunity and stole gold and silver jewellery. The entire incident of theft was captured on the CCTV camera installed in the shop. Based on the footage, the woman was identified.On Thursday, at 3:30pm, the woman was taken into custody. The police recovered one pair of earrings, one nose ring, two pairs of earrings, a pair of ear studs, two rings, and one white metal bangle . TNN
