Pune: The Chandannagar police on Thursday registered a case against a man from Talegaon Dabhade and his relatives, who duped a 44-year-old woman from Wadgaonsheri of Rs59 lakh on the pretext of marriage. An officer from Chandannagar police said, “The woman met the accused on a matrimonial website in 2024, and he proposed marriage in Nov that year. After she agreed, he began borrowing money on various pretexts, promising quick repayment.” Between Nov 2024 and Oct 2025, he took Rs62 lakh, and returned only Rs3 lakh. When she demanded her money back, he and his relatives allegedly abused and threatened her. Realising she was cheated, she filed a police complaint. “Our Investigations are underway,” he said.
