Murder accused gets 7-year RI for attacking policemen in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A court held a 33-year-old murder accused guilty of attacking policemen with a knife and injuring one of them when they tried to stop him from running away. Mohammed Saleem, a resident of Govindapura, was sentenced to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 25,000.An attempt-to-murder case was registered against Saleem on June 24, 2021, when he hit a constable on his elbow with a knife, seriously injuring him.

Police were searching for him in connection with an earlier murder case. “On the night of June 24, 2021, cops spotted Saleem with his associates in a car at Hennur traffic signal. Saleem stopped the vehicle near the forest office in HBR Layout and started running. Police chased and caught him. When they tried to detain him, he attacked the personnel,” deputy commissioner of police (east) Vikram Amte told TOI.“We filed a chargesheet against Saleem and had ample evidence at crime scene, including the knife used in the attack,” he added.
