Gurgaon waste sites to get fencing, covers

Gurgaon: MCG is set to upgrade the secondary waste collection points in Beri Bagh and Khandsa village. Work on the structures is expected to begin in one month after MCG completes the process to hire a contractor. The new upgrade — estimated to cost Rs 6.6 crore — was sanctioned by the finance and contracts committee of the civic body. Under the proposal cleared by the corporation, both sites will be enclosed on all sides using view cutters, fencing and protective covers designed to contain waste and minimise environmental and hygiene issues, officials said. MCG executive engineer Sunder Sheoran said, “The platform will be concretised and leachate tanks will be constructed so that liquid run-off from wet waste does not spill over. Provision drains will also be installed to channel leachate safely into these tanks or ponds.” TNN
