Case against supplier for duping firm of 8 lakh

Pune: The Bavdhan police on Wednesday registered a case against the owner of a steel supplier firm and his accomplice on the charge of duping a construction firm of Rs 8.3 lakh for not supplying 15 tonnes of steel.An official from the construction firm lodged a complaint with the police. An officer from the Bavdhan police said the complainant firm is constructing a housing project at Bavdhan. In Oct last year, the company ordered 20 tonnes of steel worth Rs 10.7 lakh from the firm of the accused. “The accused promised to supply the steel on time. In Nov last year, he supplied 5 tonnes and promised to supply the remaining 15 tonnes immediately,” the officer said.He said when the construction company did not get the remaining steel, the complainant started pursuing the owner and his accomplice for delivery. “The accused started citing different reasons to avoid them. Later, when the construction firm did not get the required steel, the complainant asked the accused to cancel the order and return the remaining Rs 8.3 lakh,” he said.The officer said the accused gave the complainant a cheque for Rs 8.3 lakh. When the cheque bounced, the construction company approached the police and lodged a complaint. “A case under sections 316 (criminal breach of trust) and 318 (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhit (BNS) was registered against the duo,” the officer said.
