Man held for trafficking youths into cybercrime

Ajmer: Police Wednesday arrested a 31-year-old man from Chamoli in Uttarakhand for allegedly luring youths with promises of lucrative overseas jobs and forcing them into cybercrime operations abroad. He was brought to Ajmer Thursday. Ajmer SP Vandita Rana said the accused, Birendra Singh, was part of a network targeting unemployed youths through social media. He allegedly offered high-paying jobs in countries such as Thailand but later sent victims to Myanmar, where they were forced into online fraud. The case surfaced after Vaibhav Lashkar (21) of Nasirabad filed a complaint on Jan 19. He said Singh took Rs 10,000 on the pretext of arranging a job in Bangkok and sent him a ticket. On arrival, Lashkar was allegedly trafficked to Myanmar, confined for three months and forced to create fake IDs and make fraudulent calls. Police tracked Singh through technical surveillance and bank details. Investigation is ongoing.
