Two members of Qasam Ala gang arrested

Vadodara: Two alleged members of the Qasam Ala gang were arrested by sleuths from the detection of crime branch (DCB) on Thursday. Both accused were wanted for nearly a year in connection with a jewellery theft in Dabhoi in last Feb.Police said the duo — Waseem Khan Pathan, a resident of Karelibaug, and Gani Sheikh, a resident of Hathikhana — stole a gold necklace worth over Rs 88,000 outside a party plot. Police received intelligence about their whereabouts, after which they kept watch in the Hathikhana area.Police recovered a gold chain from the duo and questioned them about it. The investigation revealed that they had stolen it from Dabhoi. Police said that both accused have dozens of offences registered against them in various police stations in the city.Pathan is accused of over 20 thefts. Police say he is an expert in stealing valuables from the storage compartments of two-wheelers. Police said he committed such crimes for the last 20 years by colluding with various history-sheeters. He was also detained under the Prevention of Anti-Social Act (PASA) in the past.Sheikh is also a history-sheeter and has over 22 offences of robbery, theft, chain-snatching, extortion, assault, threatening and gambling registered against him in the city. He was also detained under PASA five times in the past.For the last year, police have cracked down on various gangs in the city.
