Neglected Pernem ponds restored to boost tourism

Mapusa: Govt has launched a major restoration and reclamation project for the two ponds in Pernem—Paliem and Korgao— to boost local tourism and recreational infrastructure.Mandrem MLA Jeet Arolkar recently inaugurated the restored Paliem pond, a site that was neglected for over 30 years.Budgeted at Rs 14 lakh, the project aims to transform the water bodies into serene spaces for residents and senior citizens.Speaking alongside sarpanch Sneha Gawandi and local officials, Arolkar emphasised that the development will add modern amenities while preserving the area’s natural aesthetics.MLA Praveen Arlekar and local panchayat members inaugurated similar repair works at the Korgao pond.Officials are also considering developing the scenic Palaye plateau into a tourist destination by improving access.
