Mapusa: The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) has launched a survey to plug revenue leakages.The initiative follows a report by the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA), which flagged a revenue deficit and urged immediate corrective action.The council has deployed four specialised teams, each comprising six municipal employees, to conduct ward-wise inspections.The survey targets a spectrum of properties and businesses, including rented premises, mobile towers, wedding halls, and offices. Beyond verifying trade licences, officials are inspecting tourism-centric establishments such as hotels and homestays to ensure strict compliance with CCTV surveillance mandates and permit validity.A key focus of the drive is the enforcement of the Goa Municipalities Act, which mandates that owners of rented premises contribute one month’s rent to the municipality.The officer said teams are conducting door-to-door visits to identify unregistered rental units and unverified commercial kiosks.Parallel to the survey, the MMC has been identifying house tax defaulters. Starting next month, a separate crackdown will focus on approximately 3,000 properties with arrears pending for over three years, the officer said. The council has warned that failure to clear dues will lead to stringent measures, including the disconnection of water and electricity services.
