Madhubani: Personnel of the 48th battalion of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Jaynagar, intercepted and seized a large consignment of illegal Nepali liquor early Wednesday near the India-Nepal border in Madhubani district.Acting on a confidential tip-off received around 2am by deputy commandant (operations) Hari Narayan Jat, a special ambush team was deployed to intensify surveillance along the border.At about 3.15am, suspicious movement was noticed near a border pillar where people were transporting goods across the river using rubber tubes.The SSB team surrounded and apprehended the suspects, recovering 1,845 litres of Nepali liquor of various brands. The seizure also included 22 motorcycles, two cellphones and three rubber tubes used to cross the river.Two Indian nationals were arrested. Interrogation is underway to uncover details of the smuggling network. The seized liquor and the arrested persons have been handed over to Saharaghat police station in Madhubani district for legal action.Preliminary investigation suggests the consignment originated from Nepal and was being smuggled into India through the river route.
