Kabir’s wife gets notice over ‘encroachment’

Behrampore: Murshidabad Police on Wednesday served a legal notice to Meera Sultana — wife of Bharatpur MLA and JUP chairman Humayun Kabir — for allegedly owning a house built on a wetland. According to the notice, Kabir’s three-storey house at Manikyahar, under Shaktipur PS, was constructed by encroaching upon govt land belonging to the PWD. Additionally, the building occupies two decimals of land owned by Sultana which, according to the land and land reforms department, is a wetland.SP Dhritiman Sarkar said, “Converting a wetland into a residential plot without a land-use conversion certificate is a cognisable offence, and encroaching on govt land is also a crime. Therefore, a legal notice was served.” After receiving the news, Kabir said, “Trinamool is scared of me because my party, JUP, is expanding. Out of a vindictive attitude, the leadership is trying to unsettle me by harassing my daughter and wife.
