Travel company’s minibus catches fire in Bengaluru

A minibus attached to a private travel company, parked on the premises of a BMTC bus stop in Chandra Layout for a week, caught fire Wednesday morning. There were no passengers in the 21-seater bus belonging to Chandra Layout resident Thirunavukkarasu. Initially, there were rumours that fire set to rubbish in the bus bay spread to the vehicle. However, police denied this after checking CCTV footage. They said fire broke out in the bus engine and the flames spread.Cocaine hidden in fabric seized from Brazilian Narcotics Control Bureau sleuths arrested a Brazilian man and seized 4.7kg of cocaine worth over Rs 23 crore from him at Kempegowda International Airport. The drug peddler travelled from Sao Paulo to Doha, Qatar, and subsequently boarded a flight to Bengaluru. Sleuths found four women’s handbags, specially designed with false walls and concealed compartments. These contained multiple pieces of clothing fabric chemically infused with cocaine,” NCB said in a note read.HC bins PIL on traffic congestionThe high court Wednesday disposed of a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking directions to the authorities to study traffic congestion in Bengaluru and take up measures urgently.A division bench of Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice CM Poonacha said: “We do not see it appropriate to issue any judicial direction in this regard. We expect the authorities concerned to take steps as considered suitable when flagged by several authorities.”
