New Delhi: Public Works Department (PWD) has issued a strict advisory cautioning officials against demolishing any building or infrastructure asset without prior approval from the competent authority. In a Feb 17 office memorandum, the department noted instances where demolition activities were carried out without following prescribed norms and procedures. The order was issued by the additional director general (maintenance and flyover), PWD. The memorandum stressed that no demolition work should proceed without adhering to departmental rules, codal provisions, and proper technical assessments, including a detailed justification. Officials must also secure all required statutory clearances and obtain written approval from the competent authority in advance. Additionally, strict compliance is required for inventory preparation, valuation, and disposal of dismantled material to ensure transparency and accountability. A senior PWD official said the advisory aims to streamline administrative processes, prevent arbitrary action, and safeguard public infrastructure assets across Delhi.
