Yelahanka, not Devanahalli, to house mega coach terminal

Bengaluru: Stating that Devanahalli is too far from the city centre, the railways has decided to relocate India’s proposed mega coach terminal to Yelahanka in north Bengaluru. Union minister of state for railways V Somanna Tuesday said the terminal was originally planned at Devanahalli, but the distance from Bengaluru and logistical challenges made the location unsuitable. The project has since been shifted to Yelahanka, near the Rail Wheel Factory, which is considered more accessible and better connected to the city’s rail network.

The mega coach terminal, estimated to cost Rs 5,754 crore, is expected to enhance Bengaluru’s rail infrastructure. Somanna said tenders will be floated soon. On Tuesday, the minister flagged off stoppages for four pairs of express trains at Nayandahalli station and inaugurated a railway overbridge between Vijayanagar and Padarayanapura built at a cost of Rs 14 crore. He also announced plans to quadruple Bengaluru–Tumakuru line, conduct a survey for a rail link between Whitefield and Kolar.
