13 illegal gates on internal roads in Gurgaon’s South City-1 razed

Gurgaon: The district town planner (enforcement) on Monday demolished 13 unauthorised gates on internal roads in the licensed colony of South City-1 and cleared an encroachment on a green belt following a complaint on the CM Window portal, officials said.Enforcement teams, accompanied by police from Sector 40 police station, carried out the drive on Feb 17. Officials said the gates were blocking internal roads and restricting public movement, adding that such structures are not permitted in licensed colonies as they obstruct access for residents, emergency vehicles and civic services. The drive also targeted an encroached section of the green belt flagged in the complaint. Temporary structures and fencing were removed, and the area was restored for public use. “The action was taken to ensure free movement on internal roads and to protect common spaces meant for all residents. Encroachments on green belts and public utilities will not be allowed,” a department official said.Residents expressed mixed reactions. Some welcomed the move, saying the gates had turned internal roads into restricted zones. “Delivery vehicles and visitors faced difficulties, and even emergency access was affected. This was necessary,” said a resident of Block E, Rakesh Mehra.Others raised security concerns. “We understand the rules, but safety is also important. Authorities should work with RWAs to find lawful ways to ensure security without blocking roads,” said another resident, Sunita Arora.Officials said RWAs and residents had been repeatedly advised against raising barriers on internal roads or occupying common areas without approval. “Licensed colonies have clear norms regarding roads and green belts. Any obstruction or encroachment will invite action,” another official said. They added that security measures such as CCTV cameras and guards are permitted, but blocking roads is not.The enforcement wing said similar drives will continue in other licensed colonies where complaints of illegal gates, boundary walls or encroachments on public land are received.
