Cops search for man giving jeweller dud cheque of 3 lakh

Pune: The Dighi police have launched a search for a man for allegedly giving a cheque of a dormant bank account to a jeweller in Jan and duping the latter of Rs3 lakh.The victim lodged a complaint with the Dighi police on Sunday. The police registered a case under Section 318 (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the accused. An officer from the Dighi police said the accused came to the complainant’s jewellery shop at Charholi Phata on Jan 13, and selected a gold chain and bracelet worth Rs3 lakh. “The glib talker convinced the jeweller that he would make the payment by cheque,” the officer said.He said the accused gave a cheque of Rs3 lakh to the jeweller and left. When the jeweller deposited the cheque in the bank, it bounced because it was from a dormant account. “When the jeweller tried to contact the accused, the latter’s cellphone was unreachable,” the officer said.
