Howrah: A TMC youth neta was arrested after the death of a Congress panchayat neta in Uluberia’s Jhamtia on Tuesday. Deceased Srimanta Dolui’s family alleged that he was beaten up by accused Sagar Dolui. Locals blocked roads in protest after Srimanta’s death.A doctor at Amta Block Hospital said it appeared that Srimanta died of internal bleeding.Congress neta Asit Mitra said that he had heard that Sagar extorted money from Srimanta and when the latter protested, he was beaten up. Denying this, Amta TMC MLA Sukanta Paul said that death was over some dispute that had no political link.Howrah Rural ASP George Allen said regular patrols were being taken out to maintain peace.
