PUNE: A 21-year-old woman was abducted in Pune by two men while she was accompanied by her mother and brother, sparking widespread public outrage and protests, a senior police officer said on Wednesday.According to news agency ANI, the woman was allegedly taken by two men while she was travelling with her mother and brother on Tuesday night.A case has been registered at Bhigwan Police Station last night.Deputy superintendent of police Ganesh Biradar of Pune Rural Police said the suspects, identified as Zahir Haroon Sheikh and Ayaan Haroon Sheikh, allegedly stopped the family’s motorcycle on the road.According to police, the men threw red chutney into the eyes of the woman’s mother and brother before abducting her and fleeing the scene.A case of kidnapping has been registered and multiple police teams have been deployed to trace the suspects.Biradar said a district-wide “nakabandi” – a coordinated vehicle-checking operation – had been imposed. Surveillance has been stepped up at toll plazas and checkpoints across the district.The incident triggered strong public reaction. On Tuesday night, residents gathered on the Pune-Solapur Highway, staging protests and demanding the immediate arrest of the accused.Police said security had been tightened across the district and efforts were under way to locate the woman and apprehend the suspects.Further investigation is ongoing.
