Kanpur: Kanpur court on Tuesday convicted one Ram Naresh Passi under the Pocso Act and sentenced him to life imprisonment, and imposed a fine of Rs 53,000 for threatening and sexually harassing a minor girl.Special Judge Pocso Act/Additional Sessions Judge, Kanpur Nagar, Raghubir Singh, observed in his order that if the accused fails to pay the fine, then he has to suffer another three-year term in jail. The judicial official also ordered that 90% of the fine amount be given to the survivor. He further directed that a copy of this order be sent to the District Legal Services Authority to ensure that compensation to the survivor and her family was given to them earlier. If the sum was provided, then that should be adjusted in the fund given under the UP Victim Damages Scheme 2014.The judicial official also observed that the guilty accused physically exploited a minor girl, and thrashed and intimidated her with threats to kill her. According to additional district govt counsel Omendra Dixit and special public prosecutor Chandra Kant Sharma, the complainant was the mother of the survivor. She reported that on Aug 2, 2021, she, along with her husband and 6-year-old daughter (now aged 12), were sleeping in the room of their quarter. Around midnight, the little girl went to the urinal, where Ram Naresh Pasi, who used to live in the adjacent room, caught her and took her to his room. He tied her mouth with a scarf and tried to physically exploit her. He later threatened to kill her if she told the incident to her parents.
