BENGALURU: A gang of at least 2 robbers, clad in khaki uniform, robbed a civil contractor-cum-realtor of Rs 20 lakhs in cash and around 500 grams of gold from their Byadarahalli residence in the north-west part of the city on Monday afternoon. The victim, Hombalegowda, and his wife, Mangalamma, resided with their son and daughter-in-law at BEL Layout. Their 2-and-a-half-year-old granddaughter was at home when the incident took place, police said. However, the miscreants did not harm anyone during their nearly 30-minute stay in the house, police added.Around 2 pm, a man in police uniform knocked on the door, investigations revealed. “When Hombalegowda opened the door, the man introduced himself as a police sub-inspector from Yelahanka station. Carrying a diary in his hand, he entered the house. Before Hombalegowda could react, another man, again in khaki uniform, entered. Suddenly, they both pulled knives and threatened Hombalegowda,” an investigating officer said.By then, Mangalamma came to the hall, and the miscreants held her at knifepoint. They wrapped their mouths with cellophane tape and gagged their hands with cloth. However, the miscreants did not touch the child, who was in the room.“They ransacked the cupboards in the bedrooms and took the cash and the gold. Before leaving, they grabbed the mobile phones of the couple and the CCTV DVR,” an investigating officer said.Another officer said that when the miscreants threatened the couple with a knife, Mangalamma offered her mangalsutra. “But both the miscreants refused to take it,” police said.
