Two enter drainage pipeline, die of asphyxiation; contractor booked

Vadodara: Two labourers died of asphyxiation after they entered a drainage pipeline allegedly without wearing any safety equipment near Khatamba village on Sunday evening. The Varnama police filed an FIR against contractor Jayanti Patel, who was given the contract of laying the pipeline.According to the police, the pipeline-laying work was on when one of the labourers learnt that the line was choked. Two labourers, Akshay Bhahbhor and Vipul Mangroliya, entered the pipeline allegedly without protective wear, face mask, oxygen mask and gloves.When they both did not come out for some time, the others present at the site checked the pipeline and found both of them lying unconscious after they inhaled gas inside. The duo was pulled out and immediately rushed to the hospital, where the doctors declared them dead. The police registered a complaint of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against Jayanti Patel and another contractor, Sanjay Khunt.
