Ahmedabad: A 45-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh died after being knocked down by an unidentified vehicle near Vaishnodevi Circle service road along side the SG Road in Sola in the early hours of Feb 13. Sola Police registered a complaint on Feb 15 and launched a search for the absconding driver.The complainant, Sandeep Kashyap, a masonry worker residing in Nirma Colony near Vaishnodevi Circle, told police that his father, Rajaram Kashyap, 45, arrived from their native village, Amowa-Kaharanpurwa, in Gonda district, Uttar Pradesh, three days before the accident.
Sandeep said that on Thursday night, he and his father ate dinner and went to sleep in their company-allotted room near a construction site at Trigon Tower. The next morning, when he woke up, his father was not in the room. Assuming he stepped out, Sandeep left for work.On the way, he received a call from his sister-in-law informing him that Rajaram was hit by a speeding vehicle near the service road opposite Olive Green building. She told him that unidentified persons found a diary in the victim’s pocket and contacted the family. Rajaram was initially rushed to Sola Civil Hospital in a 108 ambulance and later shifted to Civil Hospital, Asarwa, for advanced treatment.Sandeep, along with his co-workers, reached the hospital, where his father was admitted to the HDU (high dependency unit) ward in an unconscious state. Doctors declared him dead at 2pm on Saturday during treatment.Police said Rajaram sustained severe injuries to his head, chest, nose, and right eye. An offence of causing death by negligence and hit-and-run was registered against the unknown driver. CCTV footage from the area is being examined to trace the vehicle involved.
