Guwahati school student Ayesha Karim wins Veergatha 5.0 Super 100
Meet Ayesha Karim, a talented Class IV student from Guwahati, who has made headlines across India by clinching the coveted Veergatha 5.0 Super 100 title. Her poignant artwork, paying homage to the heroic Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan during the 2008 Mumbai attacks, resonated deeply with the panel.

Guwahati: Ayesha Karim, a Class IV student of Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti, Amingaon, Guwahati, brought pride to her school and the state by being selected among the Veergatha 5.0 Super 100 winners, a prestigious national-level competition.Ayesha earned this recognition for her powerful sketch portraying the exceptional valour and courage of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, Ashok Chakra, during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. Through her artwork, she captured the spirit of sacrifice and bravery displayed by the Indian Army officer, leaving a strong impression on the jury.

Ayesha’s success placed Assam on the national map, as she was the only student from Assam in 5 years to win this competition. She inspired fellow students to dream big and celebrate the legacy of India’s brave hearts.The Veergatha Project is a flagship initiative of the govt of India aimed at inspiring school students across the country to learn about and honour the bravery of India’s armed forces. Conducted annually, the project encourages children to express stories of gallantry awardees through essays, poems, paintings, and other creative forms, thereby fostering patriotism, civic values, and respect for the nation’s heroes.As part of this honour, she received a cash award from the ministry of defence, along with a medal and a certificate, and she was also invited to witness the prestigious 77th Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path on Jan 26.
