Class 10 and 12 exam results in Haryana to be withheld if tabs not returned

Gurgaon: The directorate of school education, Haryana, has issued standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the recovery of tablets distributed to students under the state’s e-Adhigam scheme, warning that board results, certificates and key academic documents could be withheld if devices are not returned.With the 2025–26 academic session nearing completion, the department has directed district education officers, school heads and teachers to ensure recovery of tablets from students who are graduating, transferring or leaving the schools. Officials said the devices remain govt property and must be returned as per the guidelines.The SOPs specify timelines and class-wise procedures. Class 10 students in govt high schools must return their tablets and chargers within five days of their final board examination. In govt senior secondary schools, Class 10 students seeking school leaving certificates to shift elsewhere must deposit the device, while those continuing in Class 11 in the same school will keep their tablets for the next academic year. All Class 12 students must return the device, charger and accessories within five days of completing their exams.To ensure compliance, the department said boards such as the Haryana School Education Board and the CBSE may be asked to withhold results of defaulters. Further, their marksheets will not be uploaded on DigiLocker, and schools have been directed not to issue school leaving certificates, character certificates or original documents until the tablet is returned.School principals have been warned that they will be held personally responsible if certificates are issued due to clerical errors or oversight without recovery of the device.The SOPs also mandate inventory and safety measures. Each returned tablet must be entered in a stock register with its IMEI number for tracking. If the original box is missing, the IMEI must be written on the back of the device with a permanent marker.In cases of loss or theft, parents must file an FIR at the nearest police station and submit a copy along with a signed undertaking to the school. The department clarified that no replacement devices will be issued.School management committees and class teachers have been asked to inform parents and students about the rules through regular communication. Officials said the measures are aimed at protecting public resources and ensuring accountability.
