Four arrested for murder of man at liquor shop

Varanasi: A 40-year-old man, Satya Prakash, was stabbed to death by four persons at a country liquor shop in Sawra area under Rasra police station in Ballia district on Saturday and a few hours later, SOG intercepted the murder accused on Nawapur Mahatwar Road around 2.20 am on Sunday. The four accused, including two who suffered bullet injuries in the leg, were arrested following an exchange of fire.Ballia ASP (North) Dinesh Kumar Shukla said on receiving information about the killing of Satya Prakash, a massive checking drive was launched in the district. During the drive on Nawapur Mahatwar Road, two motorcycle-borne persons were signalled to stop, but they turned the motorcycle and tried to flee after opening fire at the police team.In retaliatory action by SOG, two accused, identified as Sundaram Singh and Raja Singh, suffered bullet injuries in the leg and were arrested. Police arrested their two aides who arrived after them and were identified as Anuj Singh and Ajay Kharwar of Mau. The injured duo was rushed to the district hospital, while three country-made pistols and cartridges were recovered from them.At a country liquor shop in Sawra area, Satya Prakash of Gurugujpur was murdered with a knife by the four over a dispute on Saturday afternoon. On complaint of Satya Prakash’s brother Omprakash, Rasra police lodged FIR against Raj Singh alias Raja, Sundaram Singh alias Satya, and the two others. Angered over his killing, his family members and villagers had blocked Ballia-Azamgarh at Sawara Chatti and staged a demonstration for over two hours. Later, police got the jam cleared.
