Dhubri: A 50-year-old man died after he was hit by a train while crossing the track at the Tipkai railway station around 11.30pm on Friday.According to GRP, the deceased, Sukumar Roy, was crossing the track from the opposite side of the station, when he was struck by the Silghat-bound Rajyarani Express. GRP sources said that since Roy was wearing a muffler, wrapped around his ears, he might have failed to hear the approaching train.GRP recovered Roy’s body on Sunday morning, before sending it to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Later, Roy’s body was handed over to his family members.Local residents said Roy ran a stationery shop at Tipkai market, near the station, and was survived by his wife and two sons.Bhargav Brahma, a Tipkai resident, said although the station had a footbridge, people often took advantage of an unmanned crossing, some distance away, to cross the tracks.“People, for long, have been demanding that the railway authorities construct a footbridge at the level crossing area, but the demand has not yet been fulfilled,” Brahma said.Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Gauripur town, three workers became unconscious while working underground inside a water tank due to lack of oxygen. Local residents rescued all three and shifted them to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
