5 from MP on temple tour die in crash enroute to Khatu Shyam Ji

Jaipur: Five people were killed early Saturday when the driver of their car apparently dozed off and rear-ended a moving truck near Tigariya Mod bypass in Chaksu on National Highway-52, around 32 km from Jaipur, police said.The impact tore through the car’s structure, trapping its occupants inside. Police and local villagers made desperate attempts at rescue, but to no avail. Cranes were later brought in to retrieve the bodies and remove the wreckage from the highway.Deputy Commissioner of Police (Jaipur South) Rajarshi Raj Varma said all five were taken to a hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.The aftermath of the high-speed accident led to a traffic congestion on the busy highway that lasted several hours. Chaksu police station SHO Manohar Lal said teams from the local police station and the accident police station reached the spot soon after receiving information, and traffic movement was eventually restored.Police said the group of five was on a religious tour and was on its way to Khatu Shyam Ji near Reengas in Sikar district at the time of the accident. The group had visited the Mahakal temple in Ujjain Friday.The deceased were identified as Reshma Shrivastava (54), Rajak Rahul (27), Pisyuh Rai (26), Anurag Rajak (25) and Shanu Sukarwar (25), all residents of Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. Police said Sukarwar was driving the ill-fated vehicle.The driver of the truck involved in the accident has been detained for questioning. Police said they are investigating the circumstances that led to the collision and are trying to determine whether reckless driving was involved.The bodies of the deceased have been moved to a mortuary at Chaksu sub-district hospital for post-mortem. Police said the families of the victims have been informed.
