Two held near Narol Circle with 406kg ganja

Ahmedabad: The city crime branch recovered 406.35kg of ganja and arrested two men under the NDPS Act after intercepting a Mahindra pick-up near Narol Circle on Friday.Police received specific intelligence that a consignment of illegal cannabis was being transported from Maharashtra to Ahmedabad, concealed under a load of onions. The police acted on the tip-off and stopped the vehicle according to the information received, and conducted a search, during which the ganja was found hidden beneath the onion stock.The police arrested two accused, identified as Deepak Jat (20), a resident of Shirpur taluka, Dhule district, Maharashtra, and Satej Pawara (23), a resident of village Joida, Sangvi, also from the same district in Maharashtra.During preliminary questioning, the two informed the crime branch officials that the ganja was loaded at Karmala village near the Madhya Pradesh-Maharashtra border by two individuals named Sagar Pawar and Shantaram Pawar. The consignment was to be delivered at a location in Ahmedabad, which were to be passed on later.A case was registered under the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to identify the intended recipient in Ahmedabad and trace other persons involved in the trafficking network. Police are seeking remand for deeper interrogation.
