Shah to attend Maha Shivratri at Sursagar

Vadodara: Union home minister Amit Shah is scheduled to participate in the maha aarti of the gold-plated Sarveshwar Mahadev idol at the centre of Sursagar lake on Sunday on the occasion of Maha Shivratri. The aarti marks the culmination of Shiv Ji Ki Savari in the city.The annual procession features idols of Lord Shiva and his family — Goddess Parvati and their sons Ganesha and Kartikeya — seated on a large Nandi, with Narad Muni standing alongside. The procession is taken out every year on Shivratri.It begins at Ranmukteshwar Temple in Pratapnagar and winds through the walled city, Rajmahal Road and Dandia Bazaar before reaching Sursagar for the Maha Aarti. After the ritual, it resumes and concludes at Udaynarayan Temple near Baroda Medical College.Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the event. Around 3,000 police personnel will be deployed for the procession starting at 3 pm. One company each of SRPF and SAPF has been roped in, along with a platoon of the State Disaster Response Force.
