23.5L found in car without number plate in T Nagar Chennai; six held

Chennai: Police seized 23.5 lakh in cash from six men travelling in an SUV without a number plate during a vehicle check at T Nagar on Friday night. Income tax authorities have been informed about the seizure.The Pondy Bazaar police were conducting a vehicle check on Thirumalaipillai Road in T Nagar when they spotted an SUV without registration number plates. Officers stopped the vehicle and found a bag containing bundles of cash stashed inside. There were six occupants—Venkata Naga, a finance company owner from Andhra Pradesh; Padma Subbaiah, a seafood exporter; his driver, Ashwin Kumar; and employees Ganesh, Khanna Mahesh, and Sandeep Verma. All were detained for questioning. Unable to produce documents for carrying the money, they said one Seenu, a chilli trader in Silukulur Pettai, paid them the cash. Income tax officials have launched an investigation.
