Varanasi: A Sonbhadra court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping and impregnating his 15-year-old daughter.Special judge, Pocso Act, Amit Veer Singh, deemed it an “extremely serious crime” and imposed a Rs 1.5 lakh fine. The punishment was handed down just 35 days after charges were framed.
According to the prosecution, the survivor’s maternal uncle had reported to Chopan police station on Oct 27, 2025, stating his sister had passed away in Mar 2025, leaving her children with their father. The complaint alleged the father had raped his minor daughter in April 2025.Based on the complaint, Chopan police had registered an FIR against the man under various BNS sections as well as the provisions of the Pocso Act. After finding sufficient evidence, the investigating officer had filed a chargesheet and the court framed charges on Jan 7.The court, after reviewing statements from nine witnesses and case files, sentenced the 33-year-old man to life imprisonment under the Pocso Act.Circle officer Randheer Mishra credited the swift verdict to the police’s strong investigation and effective prosecution under ‘Operation Conviction’, aimed at tackling crimes against women and children. “This verdict sends a strong message that the accused won’t escape justice,” he said.
