2 SIs suspended in bribery cases in Devipatan

Lucknow: Two sub-inspectors were suspended after charges of bribery were found prima facie true in separate cases following a probe by the anti-corruption cell of the Devipatan range.The action was taken on the directions of inspector general of police Amit Pathak. The first case pertained to Hardattnagar Print police station in Shravasti district. A resident of Chhota Gulaura village under Nanpara police station in Bahraich lodged a complaint on the anti-corruption helpline, alleging that on the night of June 20, 2025, S-I Ankur Verma along with other policemen, took him to the police station for questioning. The complainant alleged that he was released the next morning only after Rs 1.30 lakh was collected through a local middleman.The second complaint was filed by a woman from the Bhinga area of Shravasti district. She alleged that, in connection with a dispute with her neighbour, Jail Chowki in-charge S N Yadav demanded and accepted Rs 2,000 through a broker on the pretext of registering an FIR and initiating action. However, no FIR was lodged thereafter.Later, S-I Ankur Verma of Hardattnagar Print police station and Jail Chowki in-charge S N Yadav were placed under suspension, and departmental proceedings were initiated against them.
