Woman jumps from fourth floor, shop staffer saves her by placing cartons

New Delhi: A 20-year-old woman narrowly escaped death after allegedly jumping from a fourth-floor hotel window in northeast Delhi’s Farsh Bazar on Friday afternoon, with her life saved by the quick thinking of a local shop employee, police said.According to police, the woman had checked into the hotel earlier in the day with a 22-year-old man. Preliminary enquiry suggested that the two got into an argument inside their room. During the altercation, the woman allegedly locked herself inside, then attempted to jump out of the window in a fit of anger. An employee of a nearby electronics shop noticed the woman standing near the window and sensed that she might jump. A senior police officer said the employee, identified as Ashish, quickly began placing cartons one by one on the ground below in an effort to cushion her fall. His swift action is believed to have reduced the impact of the fall. The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital is undergoing treatment. Her condition was stated to be critical but stable.Police said the man who accompanied the woman, along with hotel staff members, are being questioned to establish the exact sequence of events and further probe is underway.
