Trade unions’ bandh call sees limited impact

Ahmedabad: The nationwide strike call by central trade unions on Thursday had little impact in Gujarat, with normal life and commercial activities continuing uninterrupted across the state. Major cities — Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot — reported no disruptions, as markets, industries, educational institutions and transport services functioned as usual.State-run GSRTC buses and Ahmedabad metro services operated on schedule, while private offices, factories and financial institutions recorded regular attendance. In Ahmedabad, textile markets saw routine business, with industry representatives stating that workers did not join the strike.

Ashish Zaveri of Ahmedabad Vepari Mahajan confirmed that city markets remained open and commercial establishments functioned normally, with traders and workers attending work as usual.However, public sector banks witnessed partial participation by employees affiliated with trade unions. Banking sources said transactions worth nearly Rs 15,000 crore were impacted due to the closure of PSU bank branches during the day. Despite this, no major operational disruptions were reported.
