Man dies in accident at Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway

Gurgaon: A 56-year-old man died in an accident on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway near Hero Honda Chowk on Wednesday evening. The deceased was identified as Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Feroz Gandhi Colony in the city and a native of Uttar Pradesh.Kumar had left his workplace in Manesar and was on his way home when the incident occurred, around 5pm, on the main road in front of the Holiday Inn on Khandsa Road.He was employed with HGS India Limited in IMT Manesar. An officer said Kumar was riding a scooter but it is yet to be ascertained whether he was hit by another vehicle or lost control of the scooter and fell.“No eyewitness has come forward so far. We are examining CCTV footage from nearby establishments and from the highway to determine the sequence of events,” the officer said.A preliminary inquiry suggested that Kumar fell near a narrow drain between the service road and the main carriageway, and was injured by an iron crash barrier beside the drain. “There is a narrow drain between the service road and the main road. An iron crash barrier is placed next to it. He appears to have suffered a head injury after coming into contact with it,” the officer said, adding that passers-by alerted the authorities after seeing him lying on the road.He was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. A post-mortem examination was conducted and the body was handed over to the family.In a separate incident, a 42-year-old woman was killed after a garbage collection pick-up vehicle veered off the road and hit her on Ullawas Road in Sector 61 on Wednesday afternoon.The victim, Lalita Aditya, wife of Dronacharya Aditya, was a native of West Bengal and lived in Ullawas. Police said Lalita worked as a labourer and was on her way to Ullawas market around noon, when the accident occurred.“She was walking on the footpath. The vehicle moved towards the edge of the road and hit her,” an officer said.Police further said there were no CCTV cameras at the exact spot of the accident, however, a preliminary inquiry suggested that the vehicle was moving at high speed.The driver fled the scene after the incident. The pick-up vehicle was later seized and efforts are underway to trace and arrest the driver, police said. Proceedings have been initiated under sections 281 and 106 of BNS, relating to rash driving and causing death by negligence.
