Varanasi: The Saraimir police in Azamgarh district on Thursday arrested a person near Khandwari canal bridge for duping a man of Rs 2 lakh by luring him with a promise that a ritual to be performed by them would get him 20kg silver and 2kg gold.Azamgarh ASP (rural) Chirag Jain said that during the raid by Saraimir police, a person identified as Dharmendra Kumar was arrested while his accomplice Ramashish Maurya managed to escape. Police recovered Rs 1.90 lakh cash from Dharmendra, who confessed his involvement in duping Nandlal Nishad. Nishad lodged an FIR with Saraimir police, alleging that Dharmendra along with his associate Ramashish Maurya contacted him on the pretext of performing rituals, claiming that it bring 20kg silver and 2 gold bricks for him. Nishad gave Dharmendra Rs 2 lakh, against which the latter handed over two bags and fled the scene. When Nishad opened the bags, he found some brass pieces.
