Dispensary helper accused of raping 19-year-old colleague

Surat: A 19-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a helper at a doctor’s clinic in the Lalgate police station jurisdiction. The victim had been employed by the doctor for office work while the accused had been tasked with training her. He allegedly raped her and took indecent pictures of her. Lalgate police have arrested the 21-year-old accused, Nevil Modi, and started an investigation. In March, the victim finished Class 12. As she wanted to pursue nursing, she approached a doctor her family knew. She was given work in the clinic for a salary of Rs 15,000. After she started work, Modi allegedly began molesting her. Modi also allegedly professed his love for with her and threatened to go hungry if she did not talk to him. He once took the victim for an outing, then took her to the clinic and clicked indecent pictures of her after molesting her. For ten days in March and April, Modi would shut the clinic and allegedly molest the victim. He threatened her, saying he would circulate the images if she spoke of what he had done. On April 4, Modi allegedly raped the victim at the clinic when no one was around. The victim then spoke to the doctor about this and he informed her parents. Fearing social stigma, a compromise was reached between her and Modi on April 24, that Modi would not harass her and she would not file a complaint. The victim finally decided to file a complaint against him on Wednesday.
