Guwahati: The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G) partnered with Skyroot Aerospace, a prominent Indian space launch service provider, in a bid to advance research and innovation in space technology. The collaboration is expected to create new opportunities for students in advanced aerospace innovation, particularly around satellite launch-related work. The Memorandum of Understanding (Mou), set for an initial term of five years, will allow both sides to pursue funded R&D projects aligned with India’s strategic priorities in space technology, including the development of advanced space-grade components through additive manufacturing.Under the MoU, the two organisations will work together on internships, joint projects, academic course development, facility sharing, and industry-oriented training initiatives. The MoU was signed by Prof. Sumana Dutta, dean, alumni and external relations at IIT-G, and Ashwin Mahavadi, senior vice-president of the Skyroot Aerospace, in the presence of Prof. Devendra Jalihal, director of IIT-G, at the institute on Wednesday.Commenting on the MoU, Prof. Jalihal said, “Through this MoU, we aim to support advanced research, student training, and technology development aligned with national priorities. Such partnerships reflect IIT Guwahati’s vision of enabling translational research and nurturing indigenous high-technology ventures in India.”The partnership will also consider subsidised research payload opportunities on Skyroot’s Vikram-series launch vehicles, giving IIT Guwahati students practical exposure to space missions.
