SP MLA for law against deepfakes

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party MLA from Sardhana Atul Pradhan expressed concern over the misuse of artificial intelligence and urged the state govt to come up with a law to stop its misuse such as deepfake video calls and voice copy. He said this would in the time to come become nuisance and dangerous and even lead to disturbances in social harmony as any misuse might result in strong reaction from anyone unknowingly. This could disturb the social fabric. Pradhan raised the issue under Rule 300.Information and technology minister Sunil Sharma said that since this is a national as well international phenomenon, the state govt cannot make any rules for the same and added that a govt order from the Union govt on Feb 10 has been issued which ensures stringent punishment and heavy fine.Speaker Satish Mahana said that the state govt should ensure that the Union govt’s order is strictly implemented. He said that since the issue concerns everyone, especially those in social life, he has even requested parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Khanna to look into it.Khanna said that he was not in a position to say anything on this as of now unless and until govt takes some legal opinion on it. He assured that anything further would be said once legal opinion on the issue is received.
