Surat: A 45-year-old woman, currently living at her parental home in Navsari, has filed a complaint with the Athwa Lines police against her husband, his friend, and an unidentified LIC officer, alleging tampering and fraud involving an LIC policy. The complainant, Monika Shah (45), alleged that the accused used whitener to alter the nominee details and forged signatures to secure a loan of Rs 9.23 lakh on the policy. She further claimed that the remaining Rs 8.23 lakh was withdrawn after the policy matured.Monika married Manish in Dec 1999. The couple has a daughter who currently lives in London. Due to marital disputes and alleged harassment, Monika has been living separately for the past three years.According to the complaint, Monika purchased an LIC policy worth Rs 5 lakh in 2000 using her savings and jewellery. The policy was scheduled to mature in Jan 2025, with a maturity value of Rs 19.87 lakh. She alleged that after leaving her husband’s home, she repeatedly requested the policy documents and her belongings, but they were not returned. When she later enquired at the Nanpura LIC office, she discovered that the policy amount had been transferred to a joint account held by the couple.Monika said she filed an RTI with LIC and was learned that her husband had replaced her father’s name with his own in the nominee form using whitener, forged her signature, and obtained a loan of Rs 9.23 lakh in Dec 2021. She further alleged that the loan amount was transferred to the joint account and withdrawn using forged signatures.Additionally, she claimed that bank statements revealed Manish’s friend, Jayesh Shah, also forged her signature to withdraw the remaining Rs 8.23 lakh after the policy matured.
