GWS star Tom Green has been forced out of a match simulation, raising concerns the midfield bull could miss the AFL season start.
The newly elevated Giants captain had to be helped off the field by trainers after a tackle by forward Toby Bedford on Friday.
Reigning club best-and-fairest Green appeared to hurt either his left knee or ankle after his leg was caught in the tackle, with the club yet to find out the extent of the injury.
The 25-year-old All-Australian spent some time on the ground before attempting to get up, but was unable to bear weight on his left leg.
Green’s absence would be a hammer blow for GWS, who are already without veteran midfielder Josh Kelly (hip) and the retired Callan Ward.
He had averaged a career-best 29.7 disposals and 8.5 clearances across 23 games last season, with the Giants’ chase for a maiden premiership ending with a 19-point elimination-final loss to Hawthorn.
